OUR COMMUNITY KITCHEN
  • OCK have hosted a very successful Christmas day lunch for their guests at the bowling club as well as those who received food delivered to their home, they were able to safely welcome 30 guests for a Christmas dinner of:
Smoked Salmon or Chicken Liver Paté

    Turkey with all the trimmings

Chocolate Orange Cheesecake (made by one of the volunteers) or Christmas Pudding
  • The local community came together to support their Christmas day lunch, local businesses, organisations, local people, community groups, schools, youth organisations, third sector organisations, volunteers, parents, anonymous donations and many more kindly donated gifts, decorations and food to OCK to give their guests a significant and memorable Christmas day.
  • Linen napkins were provided to OCK for Christmas day. Along with individual mini Christmas trees for table centerpieces and volunteers made some table decorations.
  • Volunteers provided some music and entertainment on the day with singing Christmas carols and a quiz. Santa Claus also paid a visit to the OCK Christmas lunch to spread Christmas spirit to the guests.
  • Following all of these festivities the guests were offered a gift bag to take home. Wines were donated to each of the guests gift bags, volunteers donated candles, chocolates, individual Christmas cakes and more.
  • The guests were very grateful to also receive handmade face-masks, chocolate truffles and confectionery.
  • OCK accepted very generous donations. Food gifted including haggis, oatcakes and shortbread made up about 140 gift bags, a very welcome donation to OCK.
  • The charity's Christmas kindness cards were also sent out with the gift bags, as well as being distributed to local care homes, day centres, hospitals and GP practices. These have been very well received around the community.
  • Looking ahead to 2022, the charity hope to open 3 days a week, and hope they can extend their frozen food delivery offering. They also look to diversify their offering by encouraging community socialisation to reduce isolation, through the development of walking, gardening and further integration in community life for their members.
  • OCK start the new year by opening on the 6th and 7th of January welcoming their guests back to separated tables due to the rise in risk of covid-19.
  • Pupils from Compass School who came for a visit to the garden in early January.
  • Heidi's last day.
  • New chef Peter Hunter, a Haddington local started at Our Community Kitchen in the new year and they are very happy to have him join the team.
  • OCK wish everyone a happy Christmas and express their thanks for the continued support.
"Wishing you all a very happy Christmas
